Netters Defeat West Boyd For Second Victory

ELGIN — After playing a close first set, the Wolfpack Volleyball team raised their game to a higher level to defeat West Boyd 25-17, 25-7 and 25-13 in action Thursday night at St. Boniface Gymnasium.
Starting with the beginning of the second set, it was a one-sided affair as the Wolfpack seized control of the net and started making the plays one associates with a winning team.
In the second set a kill by freshman Jenna Parks gave EPPJ a 10 to 3 lead. The teams traded points before an ace serve by Stephanie Bode sparked the team to a 6-0 run.
West Boyd broke the run with a point, only to see the Wolfpack close with a 7-0 run. Set point came on a kill by senior Chelsi Mescher.
In the third set the Wolfpack capitalized on kills from Madi Voborny and Maddie Schiltmeyer to roll out to an 11 to 4 lead.
The lead grew to 20 to 8 before West Boyd made a mini-run of their own.
With the score 23 to 13, EPPJ won the last two points to claim the match. Match point was an ace serve by Jennifer Tharnish. The victory boosted the Wolfpack’s record to 2-3 on the young season.
