Neligh to Host Bread N’ Jam Festival September 12

Neligh’s fourth annual Bread ‘n Jam Festival is slated for Saturday, September 12.

The events will kick off with the Boy Scouts of America pancake feed from 7 to 10 a.m. The free-will breakfast will be held in the Neligh Senior Citizen’s Center.

A 5K walk/run, sponsored by Antelope Memorial Hospital, will begin on the Cowboy Trail at 8 a.m. Proceeds will benefit those suffering from cystic fibrosis.

The farmer’s market will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on the south side of the Antelope County Courthouse.

The Willows is offering free muffins from 9 to 11 a.m.

Bake-off entries for the adult and kid’s contests must be taken to the Neligh Mill before 9 a.m.

Adults must pre-register for the contest by Thursday, September 10.

Registration forms are available at the Neligh Public Library.

Entries will be judged on taste and presentation. Prizes include a $500 grand prize, as well as two Kitchen Aid mixers and four wand mixers.

One loaf of yeast bread or sweet bread or six rolls must be presented for judging. All yeast bread entries are required to use Red Star yeast and no pre-packaged products will be allowed. No pre-registration is required for the kid’s contest. Children, ages 6-14, may present one loaf of non-yeast bread, quick break or six cookies or muffins to be judged.

A show and shine car show is scheduled on Wylie Drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A “People’s Choice” award will be given.

Those attending the festival will be eligible to win several prizes, including a laptop computer, a GPS and an iPod.

There will be free admission to the Neligh Mill and Antelope County Historical Society Jail Museum, log cabin and Pioneer Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A craft fair, flea market and quilt show are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Neligh American Legion Club.

Live entertainment is planned on the Neligh Mill east lawn from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, there will be a watermelon seed spitting contest and games for all ages.

The Starlite Drive-In is showing “Aliens in the Attic” and “The Proposal” at dusk for $10 per carload.
