Elgin Public Schools Monday released the names of the first athlete and coach to be inducted into its newly established athletic Hall of Fame. Induction ceremonies will be Friday night at halftime of the boys game between Elgin and Wheeler Central. (With the weather-related cancellation of the games, the ceremonies were held at 3:30 pm Friday)
Elgin resident Jerry Mundorf received the honor as a result of his years of dedication to the athletic programs at Elgin Public Schools and in the Elgin community. Mundorf coached a variety of sports from the years of 1960-1970.
Elgin Public graduate Chad Schmitt was also recognized for his athletic contributions. Schmitt received numerous letters and several distinguished awards throughout his involvement in football and basketball at EPS. He also held a variety of records in both sports.
