More Events Announced For Elgin Vetch Days

The Elgin Community Club met on Monday night to iron out details on the 2015 Vetch Days celebration sponsored jointly with the Elgin Ko-Ed Group.
Scheduled this June 12, 13 & 14, the celebration theme will be “Stars & Stripes Forever” since Sunday, June 14th is Flag Day.
The itinerary at this point includes the following events:
Friday, June 12: From 10 am to 2 pm, kids of all ages are invited to participate in Sidewalk Chalk Art. The Club will supply the sidewalk chalk while the artists will work off the theme of “Stars & Stripes Forever”. The artwork will be judged at 2 p.m. that day.
An Antique Tractor Pull and Kiddie Pedal Pull will be featured at 3 p.m. behind the Steepleview Apartment complex (South Myrtle Street).
This will be followed by the annual Waterfights, tentatively set to begin at 5 p.m. on 3rd Street between Pine and Cedar streets.
The Elgin Community Center will be serving an evening meal of Walking Tacos, Polish Dogs with Sauerkraut and Sloppy Joes.
It will also be Teen Night (only teens!) at the Elgin Swimming Pool running from 9-11 p.m. There will be basketball volleyball, munchies and more for the kids to enjoy.
Saturday morning will begin with a Poker or regular Walk/Run at 9 a.m. with participants to meet at the Elgin City Park. The Elgin Public-Pope John 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be going on at the St. Boniface gymnasium and Courts. The forms and registration fee must be returned to PO Box 284, Elgin before Monday, June 8 so brackets can be drawn up. The starting time will be announced soon.
The afternoon will be all about the kids. Free swimming for kids will begin at 1 p.m. Also at that time, inflatables will be set up at the park. Kids can purchase all-the-rides-you-can-stand wrist bands and have a blast until 4 p.m. The Elgin Community Center will also do a Pie & Ice Cream Social, time to be announced.
Saturday night will feature EKG’s annual Bull-A-Rama at the CVA vacant lot behind Dean’s Market. Elgin FFA Chapter members will be selling food and a beer garden will be on site.
Sunday is Flag Day! The morning will be open to allow for church. Mid-afternoon, the parade will kick off with the Kiddie Parade at 2:45 and the adults following at 3 p.m.
The day will wrap up with a community BBQ, this year being held at the Elgin City Park. As in the past, it will be a Free Will Donation (with a suggestion of $5 per person). Diners will enjoy a BBQ pork sandwich, pork & beans, chips and a drink.
