Melvin T. Kallhoff, 88, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Neligh Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neligh. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating.Burial followed in the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 5816 of Elgin.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Theodore Kallhoff, son of Theodor and Theresa (Reuss) Kallhoff, was born January 22, 1929 at Elgin. He attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Elgin through the 8th grade.
Melvin worked for several farmers and was inducted into the US Army in May 1951.
After serving in the Korean war he was honorably discharged in 1953.  Melvin was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Elgin.
On April 26, 1954 he was united in marriage to Patricia A. Starman at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin.
The family lived and farmed north and south of Elgin and in 1965 moved west of Elgin where they resided until retirement.
Melvin enjoyed farming, raising livestock and also sharecropped for many years.  He and Patricia moved to Elgin in 1998.
He is survived by his children: Doris (Bill) Kloewer of Omaha, NE; David (Carla) Kallhoff of Tilden, NE; Jan Ryschon of Valentine, NE; Jerald (Betty) Kallhoff of Elgin; Beverly (Stanley) Krause of Friend, NE; Merle Kallhoff of Elgin; Lori (Jeff) McKillip of Mesa, AZ; Sheila (Gary) Ortmeier of Columbus, NE; Randall (Melissa) Kallhoff of Neligh, NE; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a special friend Marcella Schiltmeyer; four brothers: Dennis (Sharon) Kallhoff of Sioux City, IA; Vincent (Sandy) Kallhoff of Elgin; Norman (Joyce) Kallhoff of O’Neill, NE; Marvin (Kathy) Kallhoff of Gainesville, TX; four sisters: Mildred Fritz of Omaha, NE; Angela (Bob) Fritz of Spokane, WA; Delores Welding of Elgin; Marian Shabram of Neligh, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia, five brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.
