Maynard L. Pelster, 61 of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Bryan LGH-West in Lincoln.
A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Inurnment will follow at the parish cemetery.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Maynard Louis Pelster, Jr., son of Maynard Louis and Ione Josephine (Hoefer) Pelster, was born December 10, 1951 at Tilden, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, attended school at Wheeler County District #3, through the eighth grade, attended St. Boniface High School and graduated from Pope John High School in 1970. He attended college at Rapid City, SD before taking the manager position at the Vince Kirby ranch near Chadron. He returned to Wheeler County in 1975 to work for the Dick Corkle ranch.
On May 5, 1981, Maynard married Sandra Marie (Cheatum) Cameron at Neligh, and through this marriage, gained four stepsons: Sean, Matt, Adam and Josh Cameron. They lived in Wheeler County and were blessed with one daughter, Brooke. They moved to Elgin in 1983 and Maynard began working for Petersburg Locker as a meat processor. He and Sandee divorced in 1990. He lived near Cornlea, NE for a couple of years while working at the Humphrey Locker, before returning to Elgin. When the Petersburg Locker closed, he took a job on the Milton Odvody Ranch in Wheeler County. In 2007, he took a job in Wausa, NE at the Locker, and in 2009 became co-owner of the Cedar Rapids Locker in Cedar Rapids.
Maynard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Mid-States Rodeo Association. He enjoyed rodeo, horses, reading and occasionally watching westerns. He loved his work, and spent a lot of time experimenting and developing new and tasty recipes for the sausages, jerky, bacon, and other meats he sold.
He is survived by his daughter: Brooke Pelster-Hess and husband Kody Hess of Stanton, NE; two granddaughters: Haley and Maya Hess of Stanton, NE; one brother: Mark (Julie) Dwyer of Bartlett, NE; three sisters: Maureen O’Donnell of Eau Claire, WI; Cammy (Larry) Abbey of Elk Point, SD; Donna Finkral of Norfolk, NE; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Paul Dwyer, and brother Henry “Hank” Pelster.
