Mary Evelyn Gallishaw died peacefully at her home Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in Tomball, Texas.
She was born in Madison, Nebraska to Charles and Vernocia Sprout on August 26, 1926. She moved with her family to Elgin in the spring of 1940 and graduated from Elgin High School in 1944.
Mary attended nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and then served as an RN in the United States Air Force, where she met her future husband, Charles.
Mary loved spending time with her family, working as a nurse, traveling, fishing, beach combing, reading and playing cards. She had a great appreciation of nature and was a former member of the Texas Gulf Coast Master Naturalists.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Vernocia Sprout, husband Charles, mother and father in law Irma and Joseph Gallishaw, brothers Leland and William Sprout.
She is survived by her four children: son Joseph Gallishaw and wife Melinda of Houston, Texas, daughter Janet Buffington and husband Rick of Tomball, Texas, daughter Jeanie Ferrell and husband Johnny of San Marcos, Texas, and son John Gallishaw of Jacksonville, Florida; 10 grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lois Sprout and Mary Sprout, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary’s life will be celebrated by family at a private ceremony.
