Marilyn J. Martinsen
1934 – 2010
Marilyn Joyce Martinsen, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Kafka) Stejskal was born May 26, 1934 at Albion, Nebraska. She attended country school at Boone County school District #44 southwest of Albion, and graduated from Albion High School in 1951. Marilyn received normal training in high school and began teaching at District #34 northeast of Albion. She later received further education at Wayne Teachers College.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Nelce Andrew Martinsen in June 13, 1954. She continued to teach at District #2, west of Albion and District #14 east of Primrose. When they started having children, Marilyn discontinued her teaching career.
While growing up, Marilyn was a member of the Congregational Church in Albion. Upon her marriage to Nelce, she joined the Primrose Presbyterian Church where she was an active Sunday school teacher, children’s choir director, and youth director along with her husband Nelce.
In 1989, Marilyn and Nelce moved to McCool Junction, NE where she worked at Wal-Mart in York for 15 years as a stocker. In 2004, they moved to Burwell. As a result of declining health, Marilyn was admitted to the Valley County Health System on Saturday, October 30, 2010. It was there where she died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the age of 76
She is survived by her husband Nelce of Burwell, NE; 4 sons: Dr. Chris (Kris) Martinsen of Albion, NE; Charles (Beth) Martinsen of O’Neill, NE; Cary (Holly) Martinsen of Rainier, WA; Chad (Jamie) Martinsen of Elgin, NE; 9 grandchildren along with numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Frank Jr., Leland, and Warren Stejskal. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Primrose Presbyterian Church, Primrose, Neb. Officiating was Rev. Ray Avidano. Casket bearers were Dr. Chris Martinsen, Charles Martinsen, Cary Martinsen, Chad Martinsen, Rick Martinsen and Doug Stejskal. Honorary bearers were Neal Martinsen, Lynnze Martinsen, Bradley Martinsen , Adam Martinsen, Alexis Martinsen, Clara Martinsen, Kaylee Martinsen, Brenna Martinsen and Braelyn Martinsen.
