Margaret “Peg” Merten, 56 of Albion, NE passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, with Fr. Stan Schmit officia-ting. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Elgin.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.levanderfuneralhome.com.

Margaret Lea Merten, daughter of Percy William and Cecelia (Thiele) Payne, was born November 1, 1957 in Neligh, NE. She grew up in Elgin, NE where she went to elementary school at St. Boniface Catholic and graduated from Pope John Catholic High School in 1976.
Peg was married to Gail Borer in 1975 and they later divorced. To this union two children were born, Doug and Chris. On April 24, 1987, Peg was united in marriage to Jeff “Hopper” Merten.
They made their home in Albion where Peg worked cleaning houses for many years.
Peg’s favorite pastimes were watching her boys wrestle, gambling and buying scratch tickets, sports – especially NASCAR, camping, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed being the “pumpkin lady” every fall.
Peg is survived by her husband Jeff “Hopper” Merten of Albion; two sons: Doug Borer and wife Lori of Firth and Chris Borer and wife Brooke of Albion; nine grandchildren: Chelsey Urbauer of Lincoln; Lauren, Reese and Rya Borer of Firth; Ty, Parker and Sienna Borer and Benjamin and Madison Reilly of Albion; her father: Percy Payne of Elgin; one brother: Ray Payne and wife Peggy of Elgin; three sisters: Sue Mailhot and husband Jim of Bellevue; Pat Borer and friend Tim Anderson of Neligh; and Connie Laginess and husband Alan of Petersburg, MI.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother Cecelia.
