Margaret Evelyn Childers, 90, of Burwell, Nebraska died November 7, 2009 at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska.  Burial will be in the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers, Nebraska at 1:30 p.m.  Rev. Bill Stovall will officiate.  

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska.  Memorials are suggested to the family.

Margaret was born August 5, 1919 near Dumas, Nebraska to Alfred and Isabella (Sherman) Green.  

She grew up in rural Wheeler County calling Chambers her home town.

Margaret married Lyle R. Childers on December 26, 1946 in Grand Island, Nebraska. They lived west of Chambers for 10 years.  They then lived in Wheeler County where they owned and operated their own farm located 14 miles west of Elgin, Nebraska.  Margaret was a homemaker very busy raising their family.  They retired in 1976 and moved to Chambers.  Then in 1981 they moved to Burwell.  For twelve years Margaret and Lyle spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Margaret enjoyed playing games and cards with her grandchildren, gardening, and hosting many family gatherings.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church and she was active in the Senior Citizens Center.  

Margaret was a Goldstar Sister member of the Chambers Legion Auxiliary.  She was very proud that six of her brothers and husband were veterans of the United States military during W.W.II and has since had sons and grandsons serve their country.

Margaret is survived by seven children; Melvin and Sandi Childers of Russell, Kansas, Allen and Julie Childers of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Kenneth and Vicky Childers of Loomis, Nebraska, Jerry Childers of Chambers, Nebraska, Kathy and Ron Kerkman of Burwell, Nebraska, Michael and Connie Childers of Maxwell, Nebraska and Ronald and Cheyrl Childers of North Platte, Nebraska.  A special nephew, Robert and Darlene Green of Ewing, Nebraska.  A brother-in-law, Charlie Childers of Maryland.  Three sister-in-laws, Thelma Green of Grants Pass, Oregon, Marge Green of Chambers, Nebraska and Helen Alderson of Tempe, Arizona, 23 grandchildren and 27 great grand children.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband and ten brothers, Charles, Raymond, Clifford, Ralph, Earl, Harold, Lester, Tevis, Donald, and Dean.
