Man Identified In Traffic Fatality May 27

The identity of a man who died in a one-vehicle accident on Wednesday, May 27, has been released. Antelope County Sheriff Bob Moore said Thomas L. Bales, age 40, of Denver, Colo., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident just north of the intersection of 527 and 100 Avenue in southeast Antelope County.

According to a press release from the Antelope County Sheriff’s Department, they were notified at 9:23 a.m. that a large crane had rolled. The crane was being used by Wanzek Construction Co. for the wind towers project southeast of Elgin. “It appears the crane was being operated north of the intersection of 527 and 100 and the crane had gotten too close to the east edge of the road and rolled into a pasture owned by John Larson.”

Rescue and fire departments from both Elgin and Petersburg were called to the scene.

An autopsy was ordered by the Antelope County Attorney’s office and the accident is being investigated by the Antelope County Sheriff’s Department.
