Lois V. Day of Grand Island, NE passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Riverside Lodge in Grand Island at the age of 88 years, 3 months, 21 days.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (today) at Livingston-Sonderman Funeral Chapel in Grand Island, NE.
Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Bartlett Cemetery in Bartlett, NE. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Virgina Day was born November 19, 1923 at Neligh, NE to Harry Mark and Pearl (Leonard) Summers. She grew up on a ranch west of Elgin, NE and attended school at District #4. She graduated from Wheeler Central High School in 1940 and began teaching in rural schools in Wheeler, Antelope and Holt Counties.
On February 23, 1943, Lois was united in marriage to Earl Day. To this union, two daughters were born: Sonia and Sandra. The family moved to Grand Island, NE in 1966 and Lois continued teaching a total of 41 years. After retirement, she did volunteer work and was a Foster Grandparent at Knickrehm School in Grand Island for an additional 25 years.
Survivors include two daughters: Sonia (Stan) Cork of Las Vegas, NV; Sandra Obermeier of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren: Tory Emerson and Tonya Richmond of Portland, OR; Teesha Migliore of Post Falls, ID; Megan Fredrickson and Mindi (Chad) Seyler of Grand Island, NE; one sister: Norma Koinzan of O’Neill, NE; 10 great-grandchildren: along with other relatives and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl on February 20, 2002; and two brothers: Harry DeLoss and LaVern Summers.
