School Board Approves Technology Purchases

Meeting Tuesday night, the District #18 Board of Education acted on several things of an ‘electronic’ nature.
The board approved a plan to purchase laptop computers to be used by junior high students. The computers, Dell re-conditioned computers with warranty, will be used by students in school only. They are expected to be available for use when school convenes after the Christmas break.
On another ‘electronic’ matter, the board approved the purchase of iPads for certified staff.
The board established a policy for high school students to take home laptop computers. Under the new policy which was approved at the meeting, the student must ‘sign out’ for the computer and so must their parents. Prior to the students being allowed to take the computers home, their parents will be required to attend a parent meeting where the program will be further explained.
Also during the meeting, the school board approved a mission statement for the school. It is, “Creating an environment where all students will learn.”
Executive session — The board went into executive session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation and contract negotiations with certified staff. No action was taken after the board exited the closed session.
