Picnic Wednesday To Welcome ‘Newcomers’

Many in Elgin have noticed the influx of new families into the community during the past months. As a way to formally ‘welcome’ these new residents, a ‘Community Picnic’ will be held Wednesday evening, Sept. 4, at Elgin City Park. Bethany Miller, one of the organizers of the upcoming event, said the idea for the event is a simple one. “We want to welcome all the new families to town. Everyone is invited.”
Hamburgers, hotdogs and chips will be provided. Longtime residents wishing to attend are asked to bring a side dish — a salad or a dessert.
“Bring yourself and bring a friend,” Miller said. While there should be ample seating, she suggested residents bring lawn chairs just in case.
The picnic is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the park. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Elgin United Methodist Church.
