Holding a special meeting just days before the city’s insurance policy was set to expire, the Elgin City Council approved a new insurance carrier at a reduced cost to taxpayers.
Meeting Wednesday, May 22, at noon at City Hall, the council voted 3 to 0 (council member Shirley Nissen was absent) to approve Continental Western Insurance to be the city’s insurance provider at a cost of $15,181.
