Bishop Jones Visits Elgin United Methodist Church

The Elgin United Methodist Church welcomed a special visitor last Wednesday morning. Rev. Dr. Scott Jameson Jones, the newly assigned Bishop of the newly formed Great Plains Area, made a stop in Elgin as part of his mission to visit every United Methodist Church in Nebraska. The Great Plains Area was formed this past year by merging the Nebraska, Kansas West and Kansas East conferences.
A September 29th service was held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Lincoln celebrating his assignment to the Great Plains Episcopal Area. Pastors of all faiths, laypersons, bells and choirs witnessed and took part in the ceremony.
Jones, 58, was elected to the episcopacy in 2004 and was assigned to serve the Kansas area (which included the Kansas West and Kansas East conferences).
