Library Notes

Our library is going to automate our check out system! This will help us keep track of who has what book and give better notification of overdue books.  As a patron, you will be able to go on line to see if we have a book, renew your books on line, and request books on line.

This process will take some time because we will have to put bar code labels on all of our library materials. Our goal is to be using the new program by the end of summer.

Because of the cost and time involved, I have applied for and received several grants. The Hueremann Foundation is giving us $1,000. The Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Nebraska Library Commission, and the Nebraska Library Association awarded our library a 21st Century Librarian Internship Grant in the amount of $1,000. The intern grant will be split between three people, Breanna Bode, Chelsea Eischeid, and Lauren Vaisvilas.

In addition to helping with the automation process, these three will help with the summer reading program and learn about all aspects of the Elgin Public Library. Also, we have several women who are volunteering to help with the automation; Rosie Schueths, Marilyn Reilly, and Jan Henn.

We will be doing some major weeding (no sense labeling books that are older than me and look even worse!) If the weather is nice we will have an outdoor book sale during Vetch Days. The Hardy Boy books have been sold and Nancy Drew books are next. So if you are interested, come look at them, and make an offer.

Our hours are 1-5 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 5-7 p.m. on Monday, and Wednesday, 1-7 p.m. Our email is elgpblib@gpcom.net.
