He attended Star rural school in Antelope County and graduated from Elgin High School in 1947. He helped on the family farm after high school before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. Leonard was part of the 90th Bomb Squadron (Pair-O- Dice) during the Korean War and was discharged in 1955. He met the love of his life after the war and married Virginia Potter on August 12th, 1957 in Petersburg, Nebraska. To this union six children were born and loved.
Leonard and family moved to Columbus in 1961 where he spent 34 years working for Dale/Vishay. After retirement, Leonard and Virginia enjoyed traveling and vacationed to numerous countries and cities with friends and family. He never missed the daily 10:00 coffee stop for cards and conversation.
Throughout his life, he took pleasure in coaching his children’s sport teams, attending all and any activity of his grandchildren, golfing with great friends, and following the Shamrocks, Huskers, Bluejays and the Fighting Irish.

He was also a member of Sertoma for many years, serving as a past board member and putting out flags for holidays.
