Leonard Harris Conner, 84, formerly of Grand Island died Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Waxahachie, Texas.
Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
Leonard was born June 19, 1928 in Orchard, Nebraska to Roy E. and Lora K. (Harris) Conner.
Leonard grew up in the Elgin area and graduated from Elgin High School in 1946. He was the pole vaulter on the track team and a starter on the basketball team. He was also the projectionist at the movie theatre. He joined the Vern Wilson dance band and then formed the Leonard Conner and his music band. They played Elgin, Raeville, and through out Nebraska and Kansas. It was at a dance in Central City where he was playing that he met his wife, Anne.
Leonard and Anne were married May 26, 1947. They made Grand Island their home for 60 years. Anne passed away in 2012.
Leonard joined the First National Bank of Grand Island in 1948. He served as the Executive Vice President and was on the Board of Directors. He retired in 1987. Leonard served on the Grand Island City Council in the late 1970’s.
Leonard enjoyed trap shooting, golf, reading and traveling. He and Anne traveled extensively on vacations. They enjoyed many years of friendship with their “kool-aid-crowd” card group.
