Leonard A. Borer, 80 of Elgin, NE, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bo-niface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #229 and VFW Post #5816 of Elgin, NE. Visitation will be 4:00-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Leonard August Borer, son of Alphonse and Helen (Kramper) Borer, was born November 15, 1931 at Platte Center, NE. He attended school at a rural Boone County school east of Petersburg. He worked for several farmers in the area during his teen years before entering the United States Army on August 5, 1952. He served as a tank instructor at Ft. Lenard Wood, MO and was honorably discharged on August 6, 1954. He returned to Nebraska to begin farming.
On April 19, 1955, Leonard was united in marriage with Taureta C. Stuhr at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, NE. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Elgin, NE all of their married life, where Leonard farmed and raised livestock.  Leonard was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
He was always ready to meet and visit, always willing and ready to help out wherever needed. Leonard was always amazed at anything new, big stores, new technology. He loved to build bird houses. Great grandchildren would light up his life.
He is survived by his special friend: Alberta Sieler of Lynch, NE; four sons: Steven (Helen) Borer of Seward, NE; Gary (Lyn) Borer, Larry (Julie) Borer and Merle (Emily) Borer, all of Elgin, NE; two daughters: Patricia (Tom) Stoltz of Elgin, NE; Suzanne (Rodney) Tangeman of Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Alvin Borer of Scottsdale, AZ; Kenny Borer of Omaha, NE; one sister: Marlene Petzold of Elm Creek, NE; along with many other relatives and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Taureta in 1999; three brothers: Eugene, Ed and Norman Borer; and one sister: Laura Salber.
