Lawrence G. Luettel

1915 – 2011

Lawrence George Luettel was born on April 8, 1915 to Ben and Mary (Hoefer) Luettel in Geddes, SD. He was baptized at St. Ann Catholic Church in Geddes and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE.  Lawrence attended school at St. John Berchman School in Raeville, St. John’s School in Petersburg and graduated from the eighth grade at Rural District 16, northwest of Petersburg.

On April 24, 1940, Lawrence married Florence Spieker at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg.  They lived and farmed in the Petersburg area until moving to Adrian, MN in 1946. They farmed near Adrian for five years before returning to the Petersburg, NE area in 1951. Lawrence moved to the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion in June 2008.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, working with animals on the farm, and riding his 4-wheeler.

Lawrence G. Luettel, 95 of Petersburg, NE passed away at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center on Monday, January 31, 2011.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Florence of Albion; five children: Louella Commerford and husband Michael of Highlands Ranch, CO; Larry Luettel and wife Joan of Albion; Kathy Hoffman and husband Len of Grand Junction, CO; Joe Luettel and wife Carol of Petersburg; Ken Luettel and wife Jacque of Petersburg; 1 daughter-in-law: Rita Luettel of Ft. Calhoun, NE; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven siblings: LaVern Luettel of Albion; Stella Stokes of Petersburg; Florian (Clarice) Luettel of Albion; Flavian (Pat) Luettel of Albion; Alvin Luettel of Petersburg; Bernard Luettel of Omaha, Mary (Henry) Starman of Albion; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Richard; four siblings: Emma Koch, Clem Luettel, Marcella Stokes, and Greg Luettel.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating.

Burial was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
