Knights, Wolfpack to Battle for District Title Friday Night

It’s only a football game, but it’s so much more this Friday night when the Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack play North Central.

The D1-8 district title will be on the line when the undefeated Wolfpack line up against the 6-1 Knights.

Coming off a 74 to 0 victory over Niobrara/Verdigre, the Wolfpack have the edge in a number of key statistical categories. Under head coach Carlie Wells, the Wolfpack are averaging over 51 points per game on offense. On the other side of the ball they have given up just over eight points per game. Three times this season they have posted two shutouts (Niobrara/Verdigre and West Boyd).

North Central’s only loss this season was to Burwell by the score of 22 to 0. Earlier this month the Wolfpack defeated Burwell 18 to 14.

The Knights are averaging just under 40 points per game. On defense, they are allowing an average of just over eight points per game. The Knights have shut out three opponents this season — Niobrara/Verdigre, West Boyd and Cody/Kilgore.

The winner of Friday night’s game not only wins the district title, but also an automatic berth in the state football playoffs. Both teams are assured a spot in the postseason.

Fans may want to come to the game hungry as there will be a Homecoming Chili Feed at the field, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Free will donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to the Elgin Public Post Prom.
