Kinney, Bode Compete at Norfolk Classic

Two members of the Elgin Public-Pope John track team competed with the best track athletes in Northeast Nebraska Thursday at the Norfolk Classic.

Coach Carlie Wells said juniors Connor Kinney and Ashley Bode were selected to compete in the event held every year.

Kinney’s specialty was the 100 meter hurdles. A state qualifier one year ago, Kinney turned in a time of 16.87 seconds to finish fourth in the event. Winning the event was Katie Atkins of Pierce who posted a time of 16.00 seconds.

Bode has enjoyed success this year in the 3200 meter run. Competing at Norfolk, she posted a personal best time this season of 13:03.85 but did not place, shaving six seconds off her previous best mark. Winning the event was Briana Adams of Pierce who crossed the finish line in a time of 11:56.83.
