Kinney, Beckman Qualify for State Wrestling Tournament

wolfpackwrestlersdistrictsforwebThe best high school wrestlers in all of Nebraska will be in Omaha this weekend for the State Wrestling Championship.
Two Elgin Public-Pope John wrestlers will be among them by virtue of their outstanding performances at the Class D-2 District Tournament held Friday and Saturday.
Junior Shane Beckman and sophomore Brett Kinney earned spots in the state tournament. Beckman, injured for most of the season, put it all together to finish third in the 152-pound weight class. Kinney earned a trip to state with by finishing fourth in the 113-pound weight class.
The state tournament will get underway Thursday, February 16. Class D first round action will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by quarter-finals at the conclusion of first round matches.
On Friday, first and second round consolations will begin at 12:30 p.m. Semi-finals and third round consolations will start at 5 p.m. On Saturday, consolation semi-finals will begin at 9 a.m., third and fifth place matches will follow.
Finals for all classes will begin at 2 p.m. and will be televised by Nebraska ETV.
