June Kerkman, 88 of Elgin, NE, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating.
Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Visitation was held Friday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service.
Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret June Kerkman, daughter of Henry T. and Margaret M. (Jochum) Hoefer, was born January 6, 1930 at Sutherland, NE. She attended grade school at Star School near Sutherland, and graduated from St. Patrick High School in North Platte, NE.
Following high school, she moved to Elgin to live with her sister Ione Pelster, where she worked on the Pelster Ranch and also at Parr’s Café in town.
On October 30, 1950, June was united in marriage to Louis Fredrick Kerkman at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte.
The couple lived northeast of Elgin before making their home on a farm northwest of Elgin. June was a farmwife, raising their children and helping her husband with the farming and livestock.
She also cleaned the St. Boniface Gym, and in later years worked at the Neligh Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, served as Vice President of St. Boniface Christian Mothers, was a circle leader, and was a member of the Scattered Neighbors Extension Club. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gambling, gardening and working in her yard.
She attended many school activities, watching her kids and grandchildren and supporting Pope John Central Catholic Schools, along with volunteering at the school and church. The companionship of her dogs Biffy and Lucy was also very special to her.
June is survived by her seven children: Connie Schulz and husband Jim of Norfolk; Barb Hoffart and husband Rex of Norfolk; Mike Kerkman and wife Judy of Elgin; Janice Eischeid and husband Dave of Elgin; Marvin Kerkman and wife Robin of Grand Junction, CO; Jerry Kerkman of Norfolk; Steve Kerkman and wife Becky of Elgin; 14 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchild; one sister: Betty Thalken of North Platte, NE: along several in-laws, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louis in 2009; parents-in-law: Bill and Luella Kerkman; two brothers: Roman and Quentin Hoefer; five sisters: Ione (Pelster) Dwyer; Erma Pueppka, Freda Teply, Callista Binegar and her twin sister Jean Mueller.
