Jerome C. “Jerry” Rotert, 91 of Elgin, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Neligh Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neligh.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, January 15, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post #229 and VFW Post #5816 of Elgin.

Jerome Cornelius Rotert, son of Anton and Josephine (Schindler) Rotert was born November 18, 1926 at the family home southwest of Elgin. Jerry attended rural school District #82, transferred to St. Boniface School in the fourth grade and later attended Elgin High School, graduating in 1944.
Jerry entered the US Navy Air Corps on January 8, 1945 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on August 15, 1946.
After farming awhile, he attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he played football for two years. Following his education, Jerry moved to Oregon and was employed by General Motors Acceptance Corp (GMAC). Jerry returned to Nebraska in 1961, where he managed farms and cattle, and operated Ak-Sar-Ben Petroleum Corp along with his brothers for many years.
Jerry was united in marriage to Doris Maxine (Kruntorad) Cameron on August 17, 1963 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. They were the first couple to get married in this brand-new church. Jerry and Doris lived on the family farm, and to this marriage Doris brought two children: Lee and Robin Cameron; and as a couple had Janette.
Jerry was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, American Legion Post #229 of Elgin, and was a Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sporting events of all kinds including participating on the bowling team for the Bank of Elgin, bingo, and playing pool.
Jerry is survived by three children: Lee Cameron (Daphne Hanson) of Omaha, AR; Robin (Ted) Boll of Alamo, TX; Janette (Denis) Henn of Elgin; six grandchildren: Sean, Matthew, Adam, and Joshua Cameron, Logan and Luke Henn; three sisters: Joyce McKenna of Bellevue NE; Marilyn (Gail) Koch of Hayden ID; Cheri O’Neill of Clarmont FL; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris in 1989 and two brothers: Bill and Maurice Rotert.
