Jerome “Jay” Schrage
1930 — 2014
Jerome J. Schrage was born on February 18, 1930. He was the son of Ferdinand N. Schrage and Anna Rose (Klein) Schrage. He passed away on April 28, 2014 at his home in Omaha, NE.
He attended St. John Berchman School at Raeville, NE., and graduated from high school in 1948.
Jerome worked for the Elgin Mills until 1950 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
He was a radio operator on a patrol plane that operated in the Pacific Ocean area during the Korean War.
He received a honorable discharge in 1954.
Jerome returned to the Elgin Mills employment and also farmed.
In 1958, Jerome moved to Oregon and was employed there a number of years.
He then moved to Omaha and was associated with the Armorstone Company as Plant Manager.
He met and married his wife, Patricia, in Omaha. Patricia passed away in 2003.
Jerome (Jay) loved sports, especially baseball; he played American Legion ball for Neligh, NE., and his last year with the American Legion team in Elgin. After Legion ball, he played for the Elgin town team against some very competitive teams in the surrounding towns.
Jerome was a lifetime member of the Benson VFW Post 2503.
Jerome was preceded in death by wife: Patricia; brothers: Claude, Robert, Raymond & Walter; sisters Flora Rose and Rita (who died when she was three weeks old).
He is survived by brother: Ferd (Ramona) Schrage of Petersburg, NE; sister: Bernette (James) Ramaekers of Bayard, IA; sisters-in-law Janice Schrage of Elgin, NE, and Vivian Schrage of Clearwater, NE as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at Roeder Mortuary of Omaha, with Fr. Craig Loecker officiating.
Pallbearers were Cyril Schrage, Larry Schrage, Calvin Schrage, Tim Schrage, Paul Schrage and Charles Meis.
Burial was held at Mount Hope Cemetery with full military rites by Benson VFW Post #2503.
