Services for Irene Kathryn Knutson, 89, were Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. She died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Savanna Pines in Lincoln.

Irene Kathryn Knutson, daughter of John and Rose (Pudwill) Scherer, was born on March 12, 1925 in Pollock, S.D.
She was a graduate of Mobridge, S.D, High School. Following graduation she took voice lessons at the University of Minnesota.
She married Bernard Knutson on April 4, 1948, in Huron, S.D. They had six children: Linda (Peter) Korschaug of Ames, Iowa, Karla (Nick) Kounavis of Lincoln, Karlene (Gerald) Moser of Elgin, David and wife Shelley of Scottsbluff, Loring and wife Nancy of Bryan, Texas and Cindy (Craig) Magwire of Lincoln. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norfolk and the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff.
Irene was an accomplished vocalist, singing with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, performing live on the Arthur Godfrey Show at an Aberdeen radio station and also singing for many weddings, funerals and other events.
She was also a volunteer at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Survivors included all her children; one brother, Don Scherer of California; three sisters, Nita Pengray of California, Norma Colavita of New Jersey and Janice Barker of New Mexico; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernard, one sister and five brothers.
