Homestead ‘Raise The Roof’ Campaign Underway

The Homestead (Elgin Housing Authority) is requesting donations for a much needed new roof. Due to a low occupancy rate the last few years, money for a new roof is not in the budget.

The Homestead is a non-profit, 8 apartment complex on Highway 14, just south of the library. The Homestead has provided affordable housing for the elderly for over 30 years in Elgin. HUD has recently allowed the designation to change to “Family”, with a maximum of 2 people living in each apartment. Rent is based on income and includes utilities.

To date, donations have been received from Sharon Wilkinson – In Memory of Irene Wilkinson, Lyle & Betty Mackel, Brian & Melvina Mack, Connie & Loren Nelson, Joyce & Dave Sullivan and LeAnn & Chuck Eggers.

The following businesses have committed to matching funds for the project: Bank of Elgin, Central Valley Ag, Dean’s Market, Huffman-Levander Funeral Home, Elgin Insurance Services, Insurance Mart, Elgin Pharmacy & Gifts, The Elgin Review, Lordemann Insurance, Antelope County Veterinary Clinic, Boomerangs, Beckman Lumber, Schmitt Construction, Dvorak Construction, Elgin Equipment & Machine, Corner Service, Precision Repair, Keith Hemmer-CPA, The Station, Kallhoff Electric, Great Plains Communications, Town & Country Veterinary Clinic, Sapp Bros Petroleum, Jerry’s Feed Service and Draper Insurance Agency.

Donations can be made at the Bank of Elgin or given to Lyle Mackel, head of the Board of Directors.
