Henn, PJ Excels At MATHCOUNTS!

Teams of sixth, seventh and eighth grade student “mathletes” from northeastern Nebraska schools competed in the Northeastern Chapter contest of the national MATHCOUNTS program on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Central Community College – Platte Campus.
The contest was organized by the Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers (NeSPE) – Northeastern Chapter to recognize achievement in mathematic skills among junior high and middle school students.
Teachers and students had been preparing for the event since registration packets were mailed out in September. Approximately 100 students from 14 schools were tested on topics such as probability, statistics, linear algebra and polynomials.
The top two schools from the written competition qualifying for state in Lincoln on March 22 are (1) North Bend Central Jr/Sr High School; and (2) Boone Central Middle School.
In addition the top four individuals not on the above teams also qualified for state. Placing first and qualifying to compete at state was Logan Henn of Pope John XXIII High School.
