Heavy Rains Hit Area

Heavy rain north and west of Elgin.

Heavy rains with some isolated, localized flooding hit the Elgin area last night. No need to build an ark just yet though. Flooding, for the most part, was isolated to flat and low-lying areas where drainage is an issue. The usual intersections and ditches in Elgin accumulated water until enough time passed for it to drain away.

The rain began at approximately 8:30 pm on Thursday night and continued throughout the night hours.  In town, reports of just over 3 inches appear to the norm.  North and slightly west of Elgin saw over 6 inches of rain. The Leroy Becker farm located west of Elgin had approximately 5-1/2 inches of rain. Southwest of Elgin saw 4-1/2 inches of rain.  No highways, roads or streets are reported closed at the present time.
