Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Friday

 

Household hazardous waste collection day will be Friday, May 14 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. 

Elgin residents may bring their household hazardous waste to the location north of the recycling trailer. 

Everyone is asked to place materials in boxes, with paint being in a separate box. 

Acceptable waste materials are: paints, stains, etc., poisons, yard fertilizers, acids, banned materials such as DDT, chloradane, etc., cyanide, pesticides, mercury materials, lead acid batteries, computers (2 per family), fluorescent bulbs, and prescription & over-the-counter drugs and pharmaceuticals.

Non-acceptable materials are: gasoline, farm chemicals, tires, used oil, antifreeze, and any materials that can be disposed of in another fashion such as bleach, window cleaner, etc. No containers larger than 5 gallons will be allowed and TV’s will be taken for a fee of 50 cents per pound.
