Governor Appoints Long to County Court, 7th Judicial District

Gov. Dave Heineman today announced his appointment of Michael L. Long of Norfolk to the County Court, 7th Judicial District.

Long, 45, currently serves as the Deputy County Attorney for Madison County. He is responsible for prosecution of felony and misdemeanor criminal cases including sex offender proceedings. Long previously served as a Deputy Scotts Bluff County Attorney and as Antelope County Attorney.

Since 2001, he has served as an instructor for the Criminal Justice Department at Northeast Community College. Additionally, Long trains the Norfolk Police Division and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on the topics of search and seizure, Miranda and confessions, investigation of sexual assault and child abuse cases, and trial preparation and testimony.

Long’s professional associations include the National District Attorney’s Association, Board of Directors for the Nebraska County Attorney’s Association and the Coalition for Juvenile Justice. Long earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and the Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law.

The County Court 7th Judicial District consists of Antelope, Cuming, Knox, Madison, Pierce Stanton and Wayne counties. The vacancy is due to the resignation of Judge Richard W. Krepela.
