1918 – 2010

Gilbert Schrage, age 93, of Red Oak, IA passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Rest Home in Red Oak. His remains were cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at a later date in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Oak.

Gilbert, son of Philomena and Stephen Schrage was born on November 28, 1918 in Elgin. He attended St. Boniface School and graduated from Elgin High School. He attended college at Omaha University. He spent 4 1/2 years in the Navy and served in World War II. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his sons Richard, Steven & wife Karen and their three daughters and on great-grandchild. Other survivors include his brothers Urban and wife Celine of Salinas, California, Alvin and wife Mary Helen of Elgin, sister-in-law Margaret Schrage, many nieces and nephews.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents: Philomena and Steven, brothers Wilfred, Hubert, Clarence, Arthur, sister Philomena Lee and sister-in-law Annabel Schrage.

Gilbert loved to travel and baseball. He was well known to always have a baseball and mitt in the car-just in case his nieced and nephews were ready for a game of pitch.
