With summer starting to wind down, construction of the Prairie Breeze Wind Energy farm south of Elgin is about to enter a new phase.
With more than 80 of the projected 118 turbine bases poured, big equipment is starting to move into the community to later be transported to different sites in Madison, Boone and Antelope Counties.
Nary a day now passes, that sections of the wind turbine towers aren’t transported on semi-tractor trailer trucks led by vehicles carrying signage noting wide loads. Select county road intersections have been modified to accommodate the trucks as they make wide turns headed to fields.
“Work continues to go well and is proceeding according to schedule,” said Alissa Krinsky, director of corporate communications for Invenergy, owner of Prairie Breeze. “We will continue to provide updates on construction progress as we move forward.”
Krinsky told The Elgin Review approximately 300 cubic yards of concrete go into each base. She said with most of the bases poured, workers will soon begin erecting the wind turbine towers. She said work will begin on the east side of the wind farm and proceed west in the coming weeks and months.
