Hoefer is Recipient of Vetch Days ‘Good Neighbor Award’

“There’s so many others who are deserving of this honor,” were the words Juan Hoefer spoke shortly after being informed Friday she was the recipient of the third annual Vetch Days’ Good Neighbor Award.
The award, sponsored by The Elgin Review, is given annually to a person who selfishly gives of themselves without expectation of reward. On Tuesday evening, Hoefer rode near the front of the Vetch Days Parade waving to friends and family from a convertible driven by Marilyn Reestman.
Name an activity which benefits the community and there’s a good chance Mrs. Hoefer has been involved in one way or another. She said her late husband Leonard said years ago, when they formed their corporation, that it was necessary to become ‘involved’ as a means to promote the community.
A long-time member of the Elgin Community Club, Hoefer has been active preparing different items for special events. For many, many years, she has played a prominent role in the St. Boniface Thanksgiving Bazaar, since she was a young girl. She also has remained active in the St. Boniface Quilters organization, whose quilts are some of the most coveted in the area.
