City Approves Access Easement for Prairie Breeze Operations Center

Action taken last week by the Elgin City Council may one day soon lead to the construction of an operations center for the Prairie Breeze Wind Energy LLC wind farm being constructed south of Elgin.
Janet Koinzan, president of the Elgin Area Development Corporation, along with Gary Arehart urged Council members to approve an access easement to EADC property on the northwest edge of Elgin, coming off Boa Street. The request was sought on behalf of Invenergy, owner of Prairie Breeze Wind Energy, who is in the process of leasing five acres of land where they hope to construct an operations center. Arehart said the EADC has a verbal agreement with Prairie Breeze for a 25-year lease with an option for another 25 years. However, lease documents have yet to be signed, he said.
