Annual Elgin Scholarship Fund Drive Underway

Donations are now being accepted for the 2014 Elgin Scholarship Drive sponsored by the Elgin Area Community Foundation.
Dollars collected during the fund drive will be used to finance scholarships for students graduating from Elgin and Pope John schools next month.
Donations raised before April 30 will be eligible for matching funds. The match is given by the Colonel Barney Oldfield and Vada Kinman Trust.
Altogether more than 90 students have received scholarships to continue their educations over the past 11 years. Last year, a total of $5,400 was awarded to three students from Elgin High (Blake Anderson, Andrew Heithoff and Angela Richart) and three from Pope John (Devon Baum, Jenny Beckman and Chelsea Mescher).
Through the years, 92 local students have been awarded more than $74,000 to continue their education after high school.
“The Elgin Community Scholarship Committee would like to recognize the Family of Gayla Fredrickson for their past and continued support of the foundation’s endeavors.
“Gayla was very active in the Foundation and instrumental in the success of past Scholarship drives. She not only was an active fundraiser but was interested in the success of each student that received the scholarship.”
In addition to the family of Gayla Fredrickson, other donors so far have been Dean’s Market, Jerry & Millie Mundorf, Phyllis Kinney, Dave & Janice Eischeid, Judy Wagner,  Charlie & Shelley Bode.
Flyers were sent out to area residents last week.
Persons wishing to make donations can do so by mailing their gift to Elgin Scholarship Drive, P.O. Box 345, Elgin, NE 68636.
