2013 Vetch Days Dates Announced

Meeting Monday night, the Elgin Community Club announced the dates for a number of important events to be held over the course of the next 12 months.
Outgoing President Lynell Morgan presided over the meeting which was held at the Steel Steed Steakhouse & Saloon. She announced the new club officers for 2013 are Duane Esau, president; Kimberly Young, vice president; and Anne Parks, secretary/treasurer. Esau, Parks and Tom Pinkelmon have begun serving three-year terms on the club’s board of directors. No longer serving on the board of directors are Greg Tharnish, Jeremy Young and Tony Levander.
As for the 2013 calendar of events, the club will host a community soup supper on Saturday night, Feb. 16. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the upcoming Q125 celebration in 2014. It will be held at the KC Hall. More information about the event will be in next week’s newspaper.
As part of February’s activities, all community club members who join for the first time or renew their membership by February 15, will be eligible to win a ‘chuck’ steak dinner courtesy of the Steel Steed.
In March, the club will again sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt for all the youngsters in the community. The event will be held on Saturday morning, March 23, at Elgin City Park. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to an indoor location.
Another Q125 fundraiser will be held in May. Morgan said the board has selected Sunday May 5 to hold a Chamber breakfast. Last year’s event was well-attended. It will run from 8 a.m. to noon.
June promises to be a busy month in Elgin with the annual Vetch Days celebration. The dates for this year’s event will be Monday through Wednesday, June 10-12. A contract has been signed with Richard’s Amusements to provide a carnival for all three days of the celebration.
On Sunday, June 9, there will be a car show featuring some of the best vintage automobiles in the region. Duane Esau is chairing this event. Car enthusiasts young and old will be able to enjoy seeing the cars during the day AND take part in the second-ever ‘Wing Ding’ event featuring some of the best chicken wing recipes ever concocted. During the festivities, Wayne Ives will be playing his, and yours, favorite songs, kinda like ‘American Bandstand’.
To wrap up a busy week like no other on the calendar, the EKG organization will hold their second-annual ‘Bull-O-Rama’ on Saturday night, June 15. Like many others, that event will be a fundraiser for the Q125 celebration. More about all these events as the events get closer on the calendar.
