Fangman, Kallhoff Selected For Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Game

Red and White rosters for the annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic have been released by the Classic’s Board of Directors, according to Mike Fuehrer, Sports Development Manager for the Norfolk Area Sports Council.
Senior standouts Andrew Fangman and Kyle Kallhoff on the Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack football team have been selected to play for the “White” team. The 4th Annual All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Field in Norfolk. The Red team leads the series, 2-1.
Faith Regional Health Services (FRHS) of Norfolk has been the Classic’s Title Sponsor the past three years and will continue to be the Title Sponsor through the 2020 All-Star Game, Fuehrer said. In addition, it was previously announced by Norfolk Mayor Sue Fuchtman that the City of Norfolk has pledged to host the All-Star Classic through 2020.
Blair Kalin of Hartington-Newcastle will be the head coach for the Red Team, and Tom Olson of Norfolk High School will be the head coach for the White Team. Both coaches said their respective coaching staffs have compiled 36-player rosters with a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.
Kalin said he is looking forward to this summer’s classic. “We have a good mixture of size and speed on this year’s squad,’’ he said.  “We will have decent size up front in the offensive line and we have excellent skill players.  We should have a solid defensive group that has very good speed.’’
Kalin was an assistant coach on last year’s Red Team. “I am looking forward to coaching in this all-star game,’’ he said. “It is a great honor. There are a lot of great football players in this area of the state and the players have a chance to showcase their talents.  The board of directors do a great job of promoting this game.’’
Assisting Kalin will be Tony Allen of O’Neill St. Mary’s, Terry Beair of Wayne, Mike Johnson of Hartington Cedar Catholic, Jason Konicek of Norfolk Catholic and Gene Suhr of Creighton. “I am looking forward to coaching with the assistants chosen in this game,’’ Kalin said. “They bring great knowledge and have a passion for coaching football.’’
Olson said there was a large number of good offensive linemen taken by the White squad.  “We should be able to be a very balanced run/pass offense,’’ Olson said. “Defensively, our strengths will lie in a very athletic line backing corp and a deep group of secondary players.  Our defensive line is athletic, but not very deep.’’
Olson also said the all-star classic a great opportunity to work with some of the area coaches, and some great athletes from around Northeast Nebraska. “Overall, this is the best football area in the state of Nebraska,’’ he said. “The coaching staff has had a great time getting together, evaluating film, and designing schemes for the upcoming game. I’m very excited to be involved in this very enjoyable event, and, to have a hand in such a positive cause in our area of the state.’’
On Olson’s staff will be Brent Bauer of Wisner-Pilger, Nate Blankenship of West Point-Beemer, Matt Skiff of Norfolk High, Mike Sunderman of Madison and Dave Stoddard of Stanton.
