The Elgin Volunteer Fire Department has begun their 2010 fundraising campaign. Residents of the Elgin area should be receiving letters in the mail this week. The letters are requesting donations to help offset the cost of maintaining the department. “Our members work hard to keep up on training and new technology in order to keep our community safe when called upon”, quotes the letter.
In past years, the department has held barbeques and dances but have decided to forego those expenses in order to better utilize their funds for necessary expenses.
The letter lists many of the items they have purchased for the department through grants, city tax funds and these private donations.
