ERPPD To Update Elgin’s Electrical System

Elkhorn Rural Public Power District has announced that electrical system improvements will be done in Elgin in the coming months.
Electrical customers were notified Monday that work will be done over the next six months. The project “will upgrade the service in Elgin from 2400/4160 volts to 7200/12470 volts, establish two additional power supply routes and upgrade a substation located east of Elgin. According to Todd Knutson, general foreman, these enhancements “will improve service and reliability to businesses as well as Elgin residents.”
Already, ERPPD workers have been staking and organizing the project. As weather permits, workers will be changing insulators and transformers this spring before the conversion takes place in late August or September. During the conversion process, different sections of town, Knutson indicated, will be out of power as that division is worked on. Customers will be notified of power outages prior to work beginning in select areas.
