EPS science teacher submits resignation

Meeting Wednesday night, April 11, the District #18 Board of Education accepted, with regret, the resignation of science teacher Robert Coakes. Coakes submitted his resignation so that he could take a position at Boone Central Public School in Albion. Coakes taught at EPS for two years.
Superintendent Dan Polk told the board it may be difficult to find a replacement for Coakes, noting that there were over 43 openings across the state for science teaching positions. He said the school district had received a letter of interest, but so far no official applications. In other developments:
Presentation — Students’ William Heilhecker, Jack Wemhoff and Keyera Eisenhauer, frequent attendees of board meetings, spoke about a Northern Tier Enrichment Day they attended at Wheeler Central Public School earlier this year. Altogether, 15 EPS students attended the event.
Big day ahead — TeamMates mentors and mentees will be attending the University of Nebraska Spring Game in Lincoln Saturday. Other upcoming events are the high school spring concert on April 23, Red Cross blood drive on April 30, Elgin FFA Banquet on May 1, Grandparents’ Day on May 4, and EPS Academic Awards/NHS Induction on May 8.
