EPPJ Wrestlers Place Sixth at Stanton Invite

STANTON — Wolfpack wrestlers fared well Wednesday at the Stanton Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

Postponed earlier in the season due to bad weather, the tournament featured some of the best competition of the season.

Madison won the tournament with 247 points followed by Battle Creek 191, Pender 168, Plainview 167, Stanton 141 and then the Wolfpack with 121.5 points. Altogether, 17 schools competed in the tournament.

Two Wolfpack wrestlers reached the championship round of the tournament. At 130 pounds, Derek Henn was matched up against Ricky Avila of Madison. Avila pinned Henn in 3:05 to win the weight class.

In the 189-pound weight class, Jared Seier reached the championship round. Waiting for him in the match was Steven Christiansen of Plainview. Seier wasted little time as he pinned the Plainview Pirate in 1:02.

Two other Wolfpack wrestlers reached the consolation finals. At 135 pounds, EPPJ’s Nathan Anderson pinned Archbishop Bergan’s Batenhorst in 3:12. Also in the consolation finals was Wolfpack member Anthony Hemenway. lost to Cory Sebade of Pender.

Anderson received a medal for the most falls in the least amount of time at the tournament.
