EPPJ Tames Cougars, Tigers

ELGIN — Two matches, two more victories for Elgin Public-Pope John.
On Tuesday night, Sept. 6, the Wolfpack hosted a triangular at EHS. In the first match, they defeated Ewing 25-16 and 25-22.
The Wolfpack had 19 kills in the match. Senior Elizabeth Selting led the way with 10 kills, Amy Nelson had three followed by Grace Henn and Paige Meis with two apiece, Nicki Payne and Baylee Wemhoff each had one. The team was 31 of 37 in attacks.
From the service line the team was 42 of 46 with five ace serves. Nelson had two aces, Meis, Baylee Wemhoff and Calli Krebs each had one.
In the two-game match, the Wolfpack had four ace blocks, led by Nelson with two, Meis and Selting each with one.
Baylee Wemhoff led setters with seven set assists, Ally Wemhoff had four followed by Nelson with two and Payne with one. Selting led the team in serve receive with eight, Krebs had four, Meis and Jordan Mescher each had two.
Second Match
The nightcap featured a dominant performance from the Wolfpack as they limited Niobrara/Verdigre to just 19 points in two games, winning 25-13 and 25-6.
EPPJ dominated the net with 25 kills, led by Selting with 10. Henn had five followed by Meis with four, Nelson had three while Baylee Wemhoff, Lydia Behnk and Payne each had one. They were 40 of 49 in attacks.
Niobrara/Verdigre gave up 12 ace serves in the match. Krebs led the way with three followed by Meis, Baylee Wemhoff and Nelson with two apiece, Selting, Henn and Anna Heilhecker each had one. The team was 41 of 47 serving.
Nelson led the team in solo blocks with three, Behnk and Meis each had one.
Baylee Wemhoff again led the team in set assists with 16, Ally Wemhoff had six, Behnk and Payne each had one.
Selting led the team in serve receive with five, Krebs and Ally Wemhoff each had three and Meis had one.
The Wolfpack’s record is now 4-0.
