NIOBRARA — The Wolfpack boys basketball team regained their winning ways Saturday, defeating Santee 61 to 40 in the first round of the NVC Boys Basketball Tournament.
Leading 27 to 25 to start the second half, the Wolfpack took control of the game by outscoring Santee 18 to five in the third quarter. Over the final two quarters of the game the Wolfpack held a 34 to 15 edge on the scoreboard.
“Our defense in the first half was not our best effort, but we tightened it up in the second half,” Coach Mark Schmitt said about the victory. “Balanced scoring was nice to see, but our free throw shooting (15/34) must improve or it will cost us some games. We look forward to moving on in the tournament.”
Caleb Pelster led the Wolfpack with nine points. No other statistics were available from the game, Schmitt said.
