Elinor Belle Hunter

1919 – 2010

Elinor Belle Hunter was born August 10, 1919 in Elgin, Nebraska to Walter and Ella Kinney.  She grew up in the Park Center community, attended Park Center School and graduated from Elgin Public High School.  She was a teacher in both Antelope and Wheeler counties.  

On May 31, 1940 she married Raymond B. Hunter.  They lived on a farm 9 miles west of Elgin until they moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1960.  

After moving to Arizona, she owned a children’s nursery and taught school.  Later Elinor attended Arizona State University and received her B.A. in Library Science and became a children’s librarian for the City of Phoenix, City of Tempe and also in public school until her retirement, when they moved to Cottonwood.  Elinor died August 27, 2010, in Cottonwood, Arizona at the age of 91. Along with her husband of 70 years, Raymond, Elinor is survived by her children, Judith K. Galas (Frank), Jon Hunter (Judy), James Hunter (Cheryl), Susan Wingard (Stan), and Steven Hunter (Sherril).  Grandchildren, David Galas (Bridget), Jonathan Galas, Tamera Galas Ward (James), Erika Wingard, Anna Hunter, Taylor Hunter, and Tanner Hunter.  Great grandchildren, Abigail Ward and Richie Ward.  Siblings, Dorothy Currie (Wayne), and Roland Kinney (Phyllis).
