Donations continue to be accepted for the Elgin Scholarship Drive being conducted by the Elgin Area Community Foundation.
Last year eight students (four each from Elgin High School and Pope John Central Catholic High School) received scholarships totalling $7,000.
So far the scholarship fund drive has, since its inception, raised over $41,000 to help 54 local students continue their educations.
Recent donations to the scholarship drive have come from Ray and Leora Dinslage, Todd & Melissa Heithoff, Jim & Carlie Redding, Joe & Lori Beckman, Terry & Michelle Reicks, Dean’s Market, Dave & Gwen Beckman, and Gene & Mary Jane Boes.
Others who have donated this year are Al & Mary Helen Schrage, Agnes Starman in memory of Leonard Starman, Jim & Gayla Fredrickson, Jerry & Millie Mundorf, Dale B. Jillson, Elgin Pharmacy, Ed & Annie Parks, Ray & Peggy Payne.
So far, $1,005 has been raised for this year’s fund drive.
The dollars collected during this fund drive will be used to finance scholarship for Elgin students in 2009. The Foundation believes this scholarship effort is worthy of the support of members of the Elgin community. This year the Foundation will be able to get matching funds, if our own funds are raised before April 1, 2009.
