Elgin Public, Pope John Homecoming Activities Begin Next Week

Homecoming activities for the Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack will take place next week.

The theme for the week-long activities (Oct. 11-15) is commercials.

Monday will be sports injury day. Tuesday will be Camo Day. Other dress up days are Wednesday – Inanimate Object Day, Thursday – Character Day, and Friday – Wolfpack!

Class events, as Wolfpack classes, will be 9-12 boards for the parade, 9-12 class cheers, and graduation class signs (K-8). As individual school classes, 7-12 posters for the gym (board game theme), elementary cheers (K-2, 3-4, 5-6).

A work day for classes to prepare their billboards for floats for the parade will be held Saturday, Oct. 9.

On Thursday, Oct. 14, the homecoming parade will begin at the water tower and head downtown to the Bank of Elgin where a pep rally will be held. Classes will be showing off the signs they created during the parade. The pep rally will begin at 2:15 p.m. just south of the Bank of Elgin.

Thursday evening, the Pope John Booster Club will hold a BBQ in the church basement from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free will donations will be accepted.

Coronation ceremonies for Homecoming Royalty at both schools will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the school gymnasiums.

The Wolfpack will then gather together again for a bonfire celebration at the Pope John location.

Friday, Oct. 15, will be celebrated with both volleyball and football games. The Wolfpack volleyball team will face Niobrara-Verdigre with ‘C’ team action to begin at 4 p.m. followed by junior varsity and varsity. The varsity match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Action will then shift to the football field at 7:30 p.m. when the Wolfpack square off against Niobrara-Verdigre.

Following the football game there will be a pizza party for high school students in the EPS gymnasium.

The student councils of both schools are planning to hand out temporary tattoos to all students and first “so many” spectators at the games on Friday.
