Elgin Knights To Make Sure Children Have Winter Coats

A chill is in the air, harvest is in full swing in the Elgin area.
With the cooler temperatures comes the reminder of the need for coats by numerous youth. Growing bodies and shrinking budgets don’t make it easy for some families to keep their kids in quality winter coats. This is where the Elgin Knights of Columbus step in.
According to Elgin Grand Knight Jerry Heithoff, the Coats for Kids program began nationwide last year with the goal to make sure no child in need of a winter coat goes without one.
“There are girls and boys coats, sizes SS7 to XL16,” he told the Elgin Review. “These are brand new coats. The Council purchases them and they are completely free to children in need.”
“I’ve spoken to Sheriff Bob Moore and the schools (EPS and PJCC/St. Boniface) to let them know we have them available,” Heithoff said.
